Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that, for some, the above mentioned information can be confusing. We're happy to explain it further!

Digital mastering is like giving your music a final polish. It makes it sound louder and clearer, without just turning up the volume. Special digital software helps us achieve this by cleaning up the sound and making everything stand out.

We provide free digital mastering as an exclusive benefit for songs signed to our record label, Murray Records. If you’re interested in releasing your music with us, submit your demo. We’ll review your music to see if it’s a good fit. Submit your demo here.

Imagine a giant online music store, but instead of buying individual songs, you pay a monthly fee to listen to millions of them. That’s what a Digital Service Provider (DSP) is. Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Amazon Music, and YouTube are all DSPs. Many countries also have their own DSPs with music popular in that region.

WAV is like a high-quality photo. It captures every tiny detail, but the file size is large, just like a WAV audio file takes up a lot of space on your device. MP3 is like a compressed image. It keeps most of the important details, but some information is sacrificed to make the file size much smaller. This is similar to how MP3 music files reduce the size significantly compared to WAV, but there might be a slight difference in sound quality that most people wouldn’t notice. Use WAV if you need the absolute best quality sound. Use MP3 if you want to save space on your device or share music online easily. The sound quality is still good for most people.

To ensure the best possible sound quality for your project, we’ll need a few things from you. Firstly, your final production. This is the complete song that you want us to work with. Secondly, all individual stems. Having these separated gives us more flexibility during the process. Please send all files in 24-bit WAV format. This ensures the highest quality audio for optimal results. You can upload your files to any file-sharing service you’re comfortable with (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer) and then share the download link with us.

Imagine a song as a giant sandwich. Stems are like taking all the ingredients apart – the bread, cheese, veggies, and meat – each in their own container. This lets us fine-tune the final product. Stems are separate audio files for different parts of a song, like drums, bass, guitars, vocals, etc. By having these separate parts, we can adjust the volume, effects, or balance of each element during mastering, making your song sound even better. Stems are like pre-organized ingredients, making the mastering process smoother and more efficient. Similar to separating sandwich fillings, stems are also useful for artists who want to create remixes by adding their own twist to different parts of the song.
